Answers to common questions:

  • Yes! We are staffed with IRS Form 2290 e-file specialists who will answer the phones from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, CT except for holidays. If call volumes are heavy, just place your spot in the queue and we’ll call you back the same day (usually within the hour).
  • IRS Form 2290 and the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax is unique in two ways:
    • It is paid in advance
    • The tax year renews every July 1
  • Pro tip: Think I want to be paid through next June and select the tax year accordingly.
  • Common mistake: Many truck owners file Form 2290 the same month their registration expires. But that’s not necessarily when taxes are due, so the IRS charges penalties. Taxes are due in August—or, for new vehicles, the month after the date you put a new vehicle on the road.
  • Still not sure? Contact Customer Support if you need help.
  • Pro tip: Think about the maximum weight you are allowed on a scale according to your registration. The most common truck e-filed at i2290.com is the 18-wheeler, registered for 80,000 pounds.
  • Thousands of lighter trucks are also e-filed at i2290.com and the maximum Gross Vehicle Weight on your registration is usually the correct weight. (For IRP, use the state’s highest gross weight.)
  • In some cases, determining your GVW can get tricky, so refer to these IRS instructions .
  • If you are still unsure—or if you filed the wrong weight, contact Customer Support for help.
  • For the tax year beginning July 2016:
  • Regardless of how you file your Form 2290, the IRS requires a business tax ID called an Employer Identification Number (EIN).
    • If you do not know your EIN or you are unsure whether you have one, call the IRS Business Support line at 800-829-4933.
    • If you need an EIN, you can get an EIN online here. Pro tip: Print or save the final confirmation page; it is very useful and the IRS will not provide a copy later.
  • E-file: E-file online using an IRS-authorized provider like i2290.com. This is the most convenient way to file. It is faster, simpler, and you can do it from your living room in your bathrobe. Good e-file providers save your information from the prior year to make it super easy to file.
  • By mail: Download and complete the IRS Form 2290 Fill-In PDF and mail it with a check for payment (if you owe taxes) to the address shown on the form
  • In person: Download and complete the IRS Form 2290 Fill-In PDF and take it to an IRS TAC (Taxpayer Assistance Center):
    • Pro tip: Before you drive to the IRS office:
      • Be sure that location provides service for Form 2290
      • Set an appointment in advance (beginning August 2016, the IRS is scheduled to turn away walk-in traffic)
      • Take your checkbook
      • Know your VIN number(s)
      • Know your Taxable Gross Vehicle Weight(s)
      • Know your EIN and Business Name as the IRS has them listed
    • For exempt filers, the Form 2290 is not only about payment—it is a statement that you agree you will not drive your vehicle(s) more than 5,000 miles (or 7,500 miles for farming vehicles) during the tax year. Your state will still require you to show proof you filed the Form 2290, even if your total tax is $0.
    • To e-file Form 2290 for an exempt vehicle, indicate your vehicle is “Suspended” in Step 2 of 7 while preparing your return. This applies a tax of $0 and shows a weight category of “W” on your Schedule 1. Most commercial vehicles drive much more than 5,000/7,500 miles on public highways.
    • Pro tip: If you think you may qualify for Suspended vehicle status, contact the IRS 2290 Assistors at 866-699-4096 (options 1, 4, 2) to be certain. There may be penalties for filing as Suspended if it is later determined you do not qualify.
    • Yes. The IRS Form 2290 instructions say:
    • If the state receives your application for registration of your highway motor vehicle during the months of July, August, or September, you may provide the immediately previous taxable period’s approved Schedule 1 that was returned to you by the IRS, as proof of payment. Remember to file Form 2290 for the current period by the due date of the return … No proof of payment is required for a newly purchased vehicle, if you present the state a copy of the bill of sale showing that the vehicle was purchased within the last 60 days. However, you must file a return and pay any tax due.
    • In order for you to e-file at i2290.com, Step 5 of 7 asks whether you would like to “name a person to represent you with the IRS on this individual filing.” This is what the IRS Form 2290 instructions say about this option:
    • If you want to allow an employee of your business, a return preparer, or other third party to discuss your Form 2290 with the IRS, check the “Yes” box in the Third Party Designee section of Form 2290. Also, enter the designee’s name, phone number, and any five digits that person chooses as his or her personal identification number (PIN). The authorization applies only to the tax return on which it appears.
    • By checking the “Yes” box, you are authorizing the IRS to speak with the designee to answer any questions relating to the information reported on Form 2290. You are also authorizing the designee to:
      • Exchange information concerning Form 2290 with the IRS, and
      • Request and receive written tax return information relating to Form 2290, including copies of notices, correspondence, and account transcripts.
      • You are not authorizing the designee to bind you to anything (including additional tax liability) or otherwise represent you before the IRS. If you want to expand the designee’s authority, see Pub. 947, Practice Before the IRS and Power of Attorney.
      • The authorization will automatically expire 1 year from the due date (without regard to extensions) for filing your Form 2290. If you or your designee wants to revoke this authorization, send a written statement of revocation to:
        • Department of the Treasury
          Internal Revenue Service
          Cincinnati, OH 45999

Microsoft Corp said on Tuesday that a hacking group previously linked to the Russian government and U.S. political hacks was behind recent cyber attacks that exploited a newly discovered Windows security flaw.
The software maker said in an advisory on its website there had been a small number of attacks using “spear phishing” emails from a hacking group known Strontium, which is more widely known as “Fancy Bear,” or APT 28. Microsoft did not identify any victims.

2nd December 2016

Every day it seems another news breaks about cyber-criminals hacking in and stealing information. Private companies, government agencies, movie studios, political organizations, hospitals…no one is immune.
These types of stories are an example of why the cybersecurity market has become incredibly lucrative. It’s expected to be worth $120 billion in 2017, according to the Cybersecurity Market Report by Cybersecurity Ventures. That same report estimates that a stunning $1 trillion will be spent globally on cybersecurity from 2017 to 2021.
Yet, the Ponemon Institute found that the likelihood of a material data breach involving 10,000 lost or stolen records in the next 24 months is 26 percent. The same study finds the average cost incurred for each lost or stolen record at $158.

After calling to Jessie and explaining my concerns about my SubZero fridge appeared to be overheating. He suggested that you should turn it off immediately to prevent further damage and costs. The Tech guy showed up in the next 2hrs. as discussed, diagnosed the problem, had the parts at hand and the job was completed and cleaned up in a few hours. Thanks Jessie! Your service call was exceptional and it’s a pleasure to work with skilled trades people that are professional, courteous and punctual!

This email in praise of Jessie the Sub Zero repairman who fixed our old fridge! A couple of years ago we had another repairman from another company come in to fix the leak from somewhere in the fridge. At best he made a “chewing gum” type of fix and a worst made the leak harder to fix at a later date. We called, left a message and Jessie returned our call almost immediately. He came the same day, spent some time working on the fridge and fixed it! I do not believe that we would have experienced that type of quality service from any other repairman for any type of appliance. Jessie is GOLD!

“A week ago, I had a issue with My Sub Zero Fridge model number 500, It was fridge compressor problem and I called to a well known company in Toronto they quoted me $1100 for fixing it and I had to wait a whole week, but my neighbor recommend me Jessie then I called to Jessie and he quoted me $850 for same job. Jessie reached in 1 hours to my home and he diagnosed my Sub Zero fridge correctly and then fixed it within 2 hours, Good service, good prices. I’ll recommend this comapny to all my friends and relatives for appliance repair and services. I’m writing to say Jessie level of service is amongst the highest. Many Many thanks.

I had my subzero refrigerator repaired by a technician from Sub Zero Appliance Repair Experts earlier this week. I would just like to say that I was very happy with the service that was provided by this company. The technician scheduled the call within a reasonable time, he was able to fix the subzero fridge on the spot because he had the appropriate part for the subzero fridge. The technician was friendly and really professional. I would definitely use this company again and would recommend them to my family and friends.

My wife and I have a sub zero fridge that’s three years old. I had a different appliance company come over to my home on the weekend and they couldn’t diagnose the problem. They charged for the service call however they didn’t really tell us what the problem was with the refrigerator. I was disappointed with them because I wasted my money and time on this appliance company. I called Sub Zero Appliance Service Experts and the technician was so professional and he was able to tell me what the problem was over the phone. He was at my home within 2 hours’ time, and he had the subzero fridge up and running within a few hours. The best part is that I received a senior’s discount for the repair job.

Great company. I called to set up an appointment for Sub Zero Appliance to have them come look at my Refrigerator. he gave me suggestions over the phone to fix it right away. Never heard of anyone offering a fix over the phone, no charge, no lame excuse that he needs to look at it first. What a great feeling to know that there are some helpful people in the world. Gonna try his advice! and, If it didn’t work he gave other options. Thanks Sub Zero Appliance Repair Experts for your help!.

California Vehicle Code Section 10851 VC: Unlawful Taking Or Driving Of A Vehicle

    1. Definition and Elements of the Crime

There are situations where a person takes or drives a vehicle belonging to someone else but does not intend to permanently steal the vehicle. This offense of unlawful taking or driving of a vehicle pursuant to California Vehicle Code Section 10851 VC, more commonly referred to as joyriding, is considered to be less serious than grand theft auto under California Penal Code Section 487(d)(1) PC. However, joyriding is still a criminal offense that can carry significant penalties for those convicted.

To prove a defendant is guilty of unlawful taking or driving of a vehicle, a prosecutor must be able to establish the following elements:

    1. The defendant took or drove someone else s vehicle without the owner s consent
    2. AND when the defendant did so, he or she intended to deprive the owner of possession or ownership of the vehicle for any period of time.

In any prosecution for this offense, the fact that the owner of a vehicle may have previously consented to the defendant or another person taking or driving the vehicle would not be a defense to the crime of unlawful taking or driving of the vehicle for the current offense.

Other similar or related offenses include:

A man notices that his neighbor has purchased a brand new sports car, which he keeps parked in his driveway. One day the man notices the keys in the ignition of the vehicle and decides to take the car for a quick drive around the block. He does not intend to steal the vehicle, but only wants to see how it handles. The man would not be guilty of grand theft auto under California Penal Code Section 487(d)(1) PC because he did not intend to permanently deprive the owner of his vehicle. However he could be prosecuted for unlawful taking or driving of a vehicle under California Vehicle Code Section 10851 VC. Moving a vehicle for even a small distance without the owner s consent would qualify as a taking under the joyriding statute.

In another example, a man has previously been given permission to borrow his friend s car. One day, the man needs to borrow the car but cannot find his friend. The man knows where his friend keeps a spare key, so he takes the vehicle without the friend s consent and returns the vehicle later that day. The man could be found guilty of unlawful taking of a vehicle and the fact that the friend had previously allowed him to use the vehicle would not be a defense.

    4. Defenses to Unlawful Taking or Driving of a Vehicle

If the defendant had the owner s permission or consent to take the vehicle on that specific occasion, he or she would not be guilty of this offense. Additionally, if the defendant had a legitimate claim of right to the vehicle, there would be no criminal liability.

There may be situations in which a person is required to temporarily borrow a vehicle due to a sudden emergency. In these situations, the defendant may have a valid necessity defense if he or she is charged criminally with unlawful taking or driving of a vehicle.

Unlawful taking or driving of a vehicle is a wobbler offense that can be filed by prosecutors as either a felony or a misdemeanor. If filed as a felony, the maximum penalty one could receive is three years in prison. If charged as a misdemeanor, the maximum penalty is a year in jail.

If the vehicle involved in the joyriding offense was an ambulance on an emergency call, a marked law enforcement or firefighting vehicle or a vehicle used for the transport of disabled persons, this offense is always a felony that is punishable by up to four years in prison.

    6. Criminal Defense for Unlawful Taking or Driving of a Vehicle Cases
